About Utah's AAA Hockey Program

The Wasatch Renegades Hockey Organization stands as Utah's premier destination for top-tier youth hockey development, not only within Utah but also across surrounding states. As a non-profit entity, our mission is to cultivate excellence in young athletes while fostering inclusivity and accessibility within the realm of AAA hockey. We are committed to partnering with local businesses to secure financial opportunities, ensuring that elite-level hockey is within reach for all aspiring players, regardless of background or financial status. Johnathan Garcia

Johnathan Garcia

Dryland Coach and Assistant Coach

Jonathan Garcia is an American speed skater. Garcia began his skating career as inline speed skater, winning his first national title in 2004. He represented the United States three times in the World Championships, winning a bronze medal in 2006. In 2007, he represented the United States at the Pan American Games before transitioning to short track speed skating on the ice.

Reid Jacobson

Assistant Coach

Reid played hockey in Minnesota as a youth, where his goalie experience at Red Wing High School was recognized with multiple records.

Michael Doyle

Michael Doyle

Assistant Coach

A native of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Michael played on teams in Colorado, Montana, and Idaho and served as the captain of Team Wyoming. His commitment to the sport earned him recognition in the Northern Plains Division of USA Hockey.

Lee Smith

Lee Smith

Hockey Director - 18U Head Coach

Lee brings an illustrious coaching history that spans over 29 remarkable seasons at Eden Prairie High
School, where he amassed an impressive record of 547 wins, 220 losses, and 40 ties.

Sean Leonard

Sean Leonard

Assistant Coach

A Salt Lake Valley native, Sean began playing hockey at the age of 5. He played AAA for two years, placing 3rd at USA Hockey Nationals while leading Utah High School Hockey in goals against average and being named to the Utah All-Star team 3 years straight

Tim Hale

Tim Hale

Assistant Coach

A Utah native, Tim was drafted by the USHL, playing over 150 games as a top-10 scorer. He then played for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point National Champion teams in 1989, 1990, and 1991 and the Runner-Up team in 1992.

Christian Grunnah

14U Head Coach

A native of Chicago, Christian culminated his
amateur hockey career at the highly acclaimed college preparatory academy, Shattuck-St.
Mary’s School in Faribault, Minnesota.

Brian Knaeble

Brian Knaeble

Assistant Coach

Brian grew up playing hockey outdoors on the frozen ponds of Minnesota. He was captain of his Eden Prairie High School hockey team and became a 20-goal scorer for the Waterloo Blackhawks of the United States Hockey League.

Troy Gallus

Troy Gallus

Assistant Coach

Troy grew up in Minnesota, lettering in hockey for three years at Bloomington Jefferson High School. He led them to a 24-1 record his senior year (lost to Lee's team) and a top-five place ranking nationally.
