Director of Hockey Operations/Head Coach - Lee Smith
Lee Smith was the Varsity Head Coach for 29 seasons at Eden Prairie High School. He played his college hockey at Minnesota State in Mankato. During Smith’s tenure, the Eagles compiled a record of 547-220-40. This put him at the 7th position for Minnesota High School Coaches victories. His teams won 11 Lake Conference Titles.
In post season competition, the Eagles played in 19 Section Finals and advanced to the State Tournament 12 times. The Eagles played in 6 State Championship games and won three State Championships in 2009, 2011 and 2021. Coach Smith was voted Section 2AA/6AA “Coach of the Year” 13 times in his career. Following the 2009 season, Coach Smith was named the John Mariucci “Coach of the Year” award winner in Class AA hockey.
Coach Smith’s program developed several NHL players in addition to numerous Division I, Division III, and junior hockey players. He has coached 17 Mr. Hockey candidates including three winners – Nick Leddy (2009), Kyle Rau (2011) and Casey Mittelstadt (2017). Lee moved with his wife Janet to Salt Lake City.
He has two sons Garrett, Wyatt and stepchildren Ashley, Amanda, and Adam. Coach Smith’s comment, “I am excited to work for the Renegades organization.
